Mason recorded a commentary on the Special Edition Blu-Ray of Silent Hill. Many of the plot points Mason claimed were occurring in the film were directly refuted by director Christophe Gans in his own commentary. It is possible that Mason may have wanted to have his own interpretation of the film, or that he simply did not understand the film's underlying story.
Mason complained that he was not allowed to electrocute a canary used on the set of Silent Hill, due to the bird not responding when the crew needed it to fly around wildly. He felt that he should have been allowed to electrocute the bird to make it move, rather than having to add a CGI-created one in post.
