Sheppard's Orphanage is the setting of Silent Hill: Orphan. The orphanage was previously home to the all of the protagonists from the Orphan sub-series, except Vincent.
Approximately thirty years before the events of the game, one of the residents, Karen, was possessed by the ghost of her sister Alessa. A tragic massacre then ensued, with Alessa killing all of the orphans in their beds. All except five orphans were murdered.
The massacre was a ritual to somehow "wake up" Alessa, similar to the 21 Sacraments, but since she failed to kill all of the orphans, she and her victims were trapped into a hellish limbo until all the survivors die. By the end of Mobile 3, the ritual finally is completed, with unknown results.
Known Residents[]
- Ben: a boy who had a cancer diagnostic short before the massacre. He survived by hiding at the shower room, but with all that happened, somehow he never received the notice that he had cancer.
- Clara: Moon and Tilda's roommate, killed during the massacre.
- Emilie: a girl who was sick at the time of the massacre, presumably at a hospital, thus surviving.
- Elisa: a head nurse working at the orphanage. Presumably she was killed during the massacre, since she never gave to Ben the notice that he had cancer.
- George: Ben and Leonard's roommate, killed during the massacre.
- Karen: a girl who was put at the orphanage after a criminal housefire killed her parents. She was the one who unwillingly perpetuated the massacre, being possessed by the ghost of her sister. Having no memory about what happened, Karen lived during the thirty years thinking that she had ran away from the orphanage coincidentally at the same day of the massacre.
- Leonard: Ben and George's roommate, killed during the massacre.
- Lucas: another orphan killed during the massacre, presumably a third roommate of Ben. About ten years later, sometime before the events of Mobile 2, Karen manages to revive him as a monster in order to further hinder Alessa's ritual.
- Moon: a girl who was abandoned by her parents after numerous suicide attempts. She survived by hiding in the shower room along with Ben during one last suicide attempt, but gave up and decided to live.
- Tilda: Moon and Clara's roommate, killed during the massacre.
