I need a name[]
Raw Shock reminds me of the Rorshach ink blots (which I probably spelled wrong). Considering the personalized, psychological manner in which the Raw Shocks are said to change throughout the course of the game, do you think it would be worth mentioning this in the article, or should it be left out? - Rorshach is actually the first thing that came to my mind as well when I heard the name. I would probably wait just a little while until we know more about them, such as their official meaning, before including it. But it's a very good observation. --Faded-Myth 04:20, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
I had Just recently watched the movie watchmen before seeing this, So I thought of rorschach, but not inkblots (sorry to confuse if you haven't seen this movie).--Dfskelleton 05:07, November 24, 2009 (UTC)
- Rorshach takes his name from the Rorshach inkblot test, just like his mask. So it's all kind of related. --Faded-Myth Discuss My Workload 22:24, November 24, 2009 (UTC)
Appearance[]
Should we note that they have no facial features, and have no sexual identity?00M00
- The features of the Raw Shock's are said change as gameplay progresses, so they could very well end up with both of those things. It could be noted that the demo versions lack such in a notes section but on the whole, we just don't have enough information to make any concrete claims beyond what we have. --TheGoodMan Converse Workload 02:46, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
- I mean, in the trailer. lol00M00 02:49, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
- If you think it's worth noting. --TheGoodMan Converse Workload 02:51, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
- Okay, I just want to get a permission....
As the game progressed, I actually got less human looking Raw Shocks. They began to be more clock-work looking. Blocky parts connected by joints or just floating. --Jonci
I saw Raw Shocks with belts wrapped tightly around them, reminiscent of bondage gear. I'm not sure what this represents - possibly fear of restriction (I took my time and explored every location during my playthrough) or sexaual repression (Dr. K had a field day with accusing me of this). Gatotsu911 20:20, January 28, 2010 (UTC)
- Any screenshots, or YouTube clips that look like that?
None to speak of, sorry. Gatotsu911 06:40, January 29, 2010 (UTC)
In the late stages of one playthrough I encountered one variety that either accompanied or replaced the "sliced/cross head" variety. I assumed them to be one and the same because the former, with its sliced-bodied appearance and bizarre, almost crown-like head, very much seemed to be some sort of progression of the imagery of the latter. Enemies[]
So these the the only enemies in the entire game? Fall-in 23:54, December 12, 2009 (UTC)
- Yes? Robert Orville Berkshire 00:56, December 13, 2009 (UTC)
the nature of the town[]
in the Symbolism section, it says that the Raw Shocks were "made real by Silent Hill". isn't that wrong? i thought it was clear that the Raw Shocks were just in Cheryl's head, and that the Silent Hill in Shattered Memories was not supernatural. well, besides ufos... Spuul 09:13, January 22, 2010 (UTC)
- no , the town HAS powers, Cybil even mentions that the town is so fied up that she will never work as a police officer there; the otherworld was created by cheryl's mind and manifested to Harry's (who, like Maria , is nothing but a shade with a purpose),well the town supernatural powers seems to be somewhat known even by real people , Michelle even mentions that it is "A toast to lonely souls"-who could never take control of life...--Loub 12:34, January 22, 2010 (UTC)
I think its safe to assume now judging by the date of this last post and the contents of the current wiki that the community accepts that none of the people or places in shattered memories are real but rather memories and psychological representations of the actual people and places of real silent hill.(with the exception of Kaufmans room in the lighthouse which is the first and only time False Harry leaves the planes of the ID and superego and sets foot into the ego, Cheryls concious world.)
As such there is nothing supernatural about this silent hill or its inhabitants or even its monsters. For example the raw shocks are a direct artists visual representation of the fruedian censor. A mental mechanism postulated by Frued that censors or supresses thoughts memories or other mental anomalies that may be. Too frightening sad or in other ways mentally damaging. The censors do Not remove said memories but merely supress them.As such in a twisted bizarre way Cheryls censors are protecting false harry by supressing him which would have her feign normalcy or recovery to the probing psychologists only to be able to ressurect the fake memory at a later time.
As shattered memories uses so much real world psychology depictions, mostly basic Jung and Frueds dream interpretation and archtypes I think its a worthwhile addition to the wiki to add a section about real world psychology and how it applies to each subject, as pretty much EVERYTHING you see in the game is taken directly from real world psychological dream analysis and other studies of the unconciius parts of the mind. From the raw shocks to the ice and ice sculptures to the blizzard, and even the fact the snow stops falling and hovers midair during the nightmares. Climax really went all out with their research of the unconcious workings of the mind and the result is fascinating, even moreso if you know what they based their visuals on.
Because of the nature of this information I will also need to make a source cited section for the subjects.
