The Entangler is a monster appearing in Silent Hill: Ascension.
History[]
In Hope's Junction, Pennsylvania, two members of a religious organization called The Foundation took part in a religious ceremony. Rachel Hernandez began by ritually bloodletting Joy Cirelli to remove a perceived corruption from spreading within her. A panicked Joy attempted to abort the ritual, but the Entangler manifested shortly thereafter and fatally attacked her. Rachel relayed the encounter to the Foundation's staff, who questioned whether it may have been a manifestation of their deity the Purifier, or a more malevolent being from their theology such as the Pestilent.[1]
Appearance and symbolism[]
The Entangler is enveloped in slithering vine-like limbs that it uses to grasp objects and immobilize its victims. It bares a feminine humanoid body with breasts resembling mammary glands and an ovular-shaped orifice comprising the face. The Foundation's sacred document Radcliffe, chapter seven, describes the Purifier as arriving "cloaked in roots and vines". Xavier Candless, a theologian of the order, speculated that the Entangler may have been a manifestation of the being.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
The creatures of Silent Hill: Ascension were designed by the art team at Bad Robot Games led by Chris Amaral.[2] Early concept designs for the Entangler were developed by Sadan Vague,[3] while the final design was created by Luke Starkie.[4] During the live service event, it was featured periodically as a boss encounter, unlockable in the endurance streams beginning February 6, 2024.
