Silent Hill memo - White Claudia

The book detailing White Claudia.

White Claudia is a plant indigenous to the region where Silent Hill is located. The Order uses it for its mystical and hallucinogenic properties and to create the drug PTV and possibly for the oil White Chrism. A sentence in Play Novel: Silent Hill implies that White Claudia is also used to produce Aglaophotis.[1]

The white flowers may be a reference to Morning Glory, a family of flowering plants with hallucinogenic seeds common in Asia and North America. Like White Claudia, Morning Glory is often found near water. The hallucinogenic seeds were used in Native American religious ceremonies.

Alex and White Claudia CSH

Possible stunted White Claudia around Alex.

  • At the shore where Alex Shepherd wakes at Silent Hill, he is surrounded by plants that fit the description of White Claudia, save for the "oblong leaves". As he is near water, it is very possible it was indeed the infamous plant. From this, it might also be assumed that, as it was near the docks, the collectors of White Claudia were marketing it directly from the docks and distributing it to tourists as PTV for quick business.
  • In Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, Lisa Garland's pill bottles are labeled "Claudia", which is a throwback to PTV and White Claudia, the drug Lisa was addicted to in the original game.
  • In Climax LA's prototype of Silent Hill: Origins, in the final Bad Ending's stead was a "Common Ending", in which Travis wakes up similarly strapped to an operating table. Travis was to have previously visited the same room in the Doyle Asylum for the Deranged (an early iteration of the Cedar Grove Sanitarium), where he learns that Dr. Kaufmann is experimenting with the drug. During the game's finale, Kaufmann is unmasked by Travis, revealing him to be the one purpetrating the Order's attacks on him. In the Common Ending, as Travis writhes on the bed, Alessa's burnt corpse dies beside him, her final parting thought being the realization that Travis killed everyone in Silent Hill in a White Claudia-induced spree. Dr. Kaufmann watches in through a window, taking notes. In the final version, it is not revealed who the cultist observing Travis was.
