The Wood Guardian is a boss in Silent Hill: Book of Memories. The player will encounter this boss after completing Zone 6, and it is initially planted at the base of a large tree, unable to move, in an enclosed arena surrounded by dead trees.
The player is rewarded with the Wood Sword for defeating the boss.
Appearance[]
The Wood Guardian is a humanoid creature composed of branches and stumps, resembling a living tree. A large piece of wood composing its face gives it a hooded appearance. It has long, skinny appendages and branches that stem from its back. The monster resembles a grim reaper.
Character[]
The Wood Guardian is originally planted at the base of a large dead tree, surrounded by roaming Wood Saplings. To protect itself, the guardian forces spiked roots from within the ground to impale the attacker when within range, while the Wood Saplings move in on the player as a distraction.
After sustaining enough damage, the guardian looses itself from the base of the tree and attacks the protagonist by slashing, stomping, and unleashing homing spiked roots from underground.
Symbolism[]
The Wood Guardian symbolizes the subconscious resolution of Katie Collins/Matthew Collins. Their battle is a metaphorical one; symbolizing the struggle between the player's will and Katie's, both attempting to assert their dominance over the other in order to change reality.
