“ | These visions, they... maybe they're a gift, but they hurt like a curse. I hoped my part in all of this would dwindle, but it has only grown. So I'm compelled to see, to connect the dots, to... assess.

Zayn Davies, also known as the Voyager, is a character appearing in Silent Hill: Ascension.[1][2] He's an enigmatic man who attempts to understands his powers, putting him both against the survivors in the Withering and the supernatural forces at play.
History[]
Much of Zayn's background prior to his recollections is unknown, even to himself.
He was confined to the Arcane Library in the depths of the Otherworld behind a sealed, impenetrable door. [3] While in there, Zayn suffered of prophetic visions and questions about his own nature: omens of the Collector and the Withering taking over Hope's Junction and Stilledalen plagued and confused him constantly, despite his wishes for his role in the events revealed to him to dwindle. [4]

Zayn recreates Rachel and Joy's ritual.
He eventually had a vision of a ritual, with two figures encountering a monster. He recreated the scene as a diorama with straw and clay figures, though it's unknown if he knew the identities of the people involved. This would shortly take place in the building of the Foundation, a cult operating in Hope's Junction, as a bloodletting ritual carried between Rachel Hernandez and Joy Cirelli went wrong when the Entangler appeared and killed the latter. [5]
Around the time of Ingrid Johansen's death in Stilledalen, Zayn appeared to the family's youngest member, 5-year-old Orson Johansen. According to Orson, Zayn asked "a lot of questions" to him, but didn't think much about it. Orson's mother and grandfather, Astrid and Karl, dismissed his account as an imaginary friend he made. [5] He was seen in town again days later, when Astrid experienced her first shift to the Otherworld in town square. While searching for Orson, she came across Zayn examining the soccer ball Orson had been playing with. He quickly noticed that she was stalking him, but when he confronted her, she was pulled out of the Otherworld and Zayn vanished. [6]

Zayn recognizes Toby.
Zayn began piecing together more things about the situation in both towns, learning things about the people involved through his visions. He inadvertently appeared to Toby Cirelli in Hope's Junction, unaware of how he arrived in there. With a group of Fighters nearby, Toby tried to make him stay quiet, but Zayn recognized him quickly and ran away from the scene. Despite Toby running after him, Zayn lost him. [7] A vision of Toby's Severance ritual came to him in the next days, which he recreated once again as a diorama with his straw figures, placing a blade between Toby's and Rachel's. [8]
The clarity of his studies about the Withering taking both towns grew, leading him to the conclusion that the Johansen family was the source of Stilledalen's slow descent into chaos. While Karl Johansen experienced a major shift to the Otherworld regarding the Immolator and his dead daughter Eva, he bumped into Zayn, who immediately recognized him from his visions. Zayn accused his family of having "evil" running through their veins and being the reason Zayn was brought there, before vanishing again and leaving Karl in confusion. [9] A vision showed him later dead bodies spread around Stilledalen's town square, with one figure standing and the Immolator behind them, depicting Eva Johansen's massacre fifteen years ago. [10]

Zayn confronts Rachel in Hope's Junction.
As visions grew stronger, Zayn despaired progressively more for them to stop, to no avail. He concluded that Rachel was the cause of the Withering in Hope's Junction, for which he confronted her when they met in the town's streets, demanding her to stop things and to stop running away. Rachel, in shock at the accusation, fled the scene and left Zayn behind. [11]
Zayn spent the next days absent from both towns, as they were fully plunged into the Withering, capturing bystanders and the subjects of his visions with them. As Foundation follower Krista Lee prepared for the Ascension ritual to escape the Withering, she had another of her own visions about the Otherworld, but now showing a smiling Zayn standing next to Rachel's young daughter, Faith Hernandez. [12]

Zayn explains the situation to Astrid and Rachel.
He reached the conclusion that his part couldn't be avoided, but that he could guide the remaining major players to the path that could stop the Collector. He appears in the Otherworld to both Astrid and Rachel, the only "keys" still in play. After indicating that Astrid's sister, Brit, escaped the Withering and that Rachel's husband, Eric, had been collected, he asked them if they deserved being mothers. He explained that the Collector wants them as keys to open a "door", but that they'll only become such if they're pushed to their worst, so that to save their children, they must save them from themselves. Despite opening up about his visions and his internal turmoil about his own nature, he chose to part ways with them, claiming he was never with them. [4]

Zayn as the Collector tries to break in.
Once Astrid and Rachel successfully defeated their monsters and overcame the Withering with their children, Zayn sat at his diorama, recounting the events that happened. After putting the straw figures of the dead characters on the shelf, he had a vision of Orson and Faith happily playing in the Johansen's farm swings together, before being startled by the Collector trying to force his way into the Arcane Library, unable to open the door without enough keys. Zayn begged once more to make it stop, before claiming "no more." [3]

Zayn first appeared in Silent Hill: Ascension, voiced by Griffin Puatu. His name is credited as "Zayne", and alternatively spelt "Zayn" in the episode subtitles and Official Soundtrack.[2][14] This article assumes the latter is the correct spelling.
